Our Before & After School Program operates each day that school is in session.  We offer a healthy snack and homework time.  We offer age-appropriate free-play and/or organized activities.  The Before & After School program does not operate when the school is closed for holidays, weather-related events (example:  snow days) or other unexpected circumstances.  Because our program takes place in the school, we do not operate when the building is shut down.  There are no charges for days that we are not in session.  Eligibility:  This program is for public school students in pre-K through grade 5. PreK students must attend the RSU 21 public PreK program at KES and must be Arundel residents.  Students in grades K-5 must be Mildred L Day School students in order to be eligible for participation in this program  If our program should reach its maximum capacity, children who are Arundel residents will be prioritized over non-residents who may attend MLD.  Our department is supported by tax dollars from Arundel residents, and we feel this is the only way to make it fair. This recreation-based program is intended for school-age children who are fully potty-trained, no longer napping during the day, who are able to take responsibility for their actions, can communicate their needs to staff, can understand and follow directions and adhere to safety and group rules within a 12:1 child to staff ratio, and who enjoy being physically/socially active within the presence of their elementary school-age peers.  If you have questions about whether this program would be a good fit for your child, please reply by email or call the office and ask for Jenn at (207) 286-9241.     Please note that we are unable to make changes to your child's registration after the registration deadline has passed due to the confusion it creates, particularly during the after school dismissal process. After the registration deadline passes, we do not offer credits or refunds on days registered for but not attended regardless of the reason. Registrations are accepted by the month for attendance on the same days each week throughout the month.  Registrations and fees are due in full by the 25th of each month for the next month.Maximum capacity:  36 each morning.  60 each afternoon.

The program will run Monday-Thursday (Closed Fridays) with the hope that we'll have consistent staff members working with this group every day throughout the 8 week session.  This group will have the mini-bus to use for age-appropriate field trips offered 1-2 times per week, depending on how the group does with trips.  The mini bus will be perfect for this group as it seats 12 people, which will provide a seat for 11 children and 1 staff member while the other staff member drives.  This age group will be capped at 11 spots. Oftentimes the larger amusement parks offer very little for young children who may not meet height requirements for rides, and the older kids can withstand a much longer day playing in the sun that the little ones can.  We will gear field trips toward places that these youngsters will get more out of...we are thinking places like the Children's Museum, and maybe shorter stints at amusement parks that have more to offer for littles.  In order to participate, children must be fully potty-trained, no longer napping, and must be able to be held accountable and meet behavior requirements.  A personality that enjoys group activities, being physically active, and playing with friends for extended periods of time would do best in our Summer Rec environment. Children must be able to be responsible for themselves physically and must be able to communicate needs to a staff made up of some teens/young adults. Please note that you are encouraged to register and pay the $100 deposit to register (don't wait!), however if your child's specific age group is full, you will be notified on the next business day (Monday through Thursday).  We will confirm your registration, and will refund the deposit if we are unable to accommodate your child's age group.  A minimum of $100 must be paid at the time of registration in order to secure a spot.   PAYMENT INFORMATION:  A $100 deposit is needed to initially register each child.  Payments in any amount can be paid from mid-January through May 15, but your balance must be paid in full by Wednesday, May 15, 2025 in order to secure your child's spot in the program.  There are 18 weeks during the registration period.  We encourage families to plan your payments accordingly in order to have your balance paid in full by the 5/15 deadline...there are no refunds/credits after the 5/15 deadline.  Scholarship requests will not be considered after 5/1/2025.  Please plan ahead.

If you have questions about the program, the environment, or if you are wondering if it would be appropriate for your child (at any age), feel free to call the office and speak with Jenn (207) 286-9241.This age group will be limited to 11 spots, and we will prioritize those who have been relying on us this school year for their Before and/or After School childcare first before opening up the registration to other Arundel residents. REGISTRATION INFORMATION:  Last year, our Summer Rec program was FULL by March.
