KAK Winter Basketball 2026-2027 (K-6)
Registration for KAK Recreation Youth Basketball 2026-2027 Season Opens, Monday, September 14th!
Important Notes for Parents:
- KAK Basketball, for the Towns of Kennebunkport, Arundel & Kennebunk, all registrations will go through Arundel Parks & Recreation.

- Registration Deadline: November 9th at 11:59PM
- All communication regarding the program will be sent through email. Please make sure your account has the correct email attached and please make sure your provider settings are set to allow emails: noreply@myrecdepartment.com
- We cannot accept any team or teammate requests. In the past we have tried to honor these requests but in recent seasons we received too many to accommodate and this caused too many administrative conflicts.
- Message from Tyler Bernaiche, "If your child has other commitments during the week, please email me the days they CANNOT practice on. I will assign them to teams that practice on nights available to them. This only goes for grades 3-6. I trust that parents are being truthful and not saying they can't practice on certain nights just to stack teams. This saves a lot of work after teams and schedules are finalized if your child can't practice on a certain day. Thank you!"
- Final game schedules for grades K-4 will be based on the number of teams in the division and can vary from year to year. Times listed in the individual sessions on Arundel's site are based on schedules from past years.

Season Schedule for K-6:
- November 21st: Participants will meet their coaches and team for a 30 minute open gym along with receiving their team shirts or jerseys.
- November 23rd - November 29th: NO PRACTICES/GAMES ENJOY THANKSGIVING!
- Week of November 30th: Practices begin for all age levels!
- December 5th: First weekend of games for all age levels. Grades 5/6, December 5, December 12th & December 19th games will be played in house. Typically other communities' start date is later than ours. Families will be updated with schedules ASAP after annual scheduling meetings with other communities.
- December 7th & December 19th: Practices & games for all age levels.
- December 21st - January 3rd: NO PRACTICES/GAMES ENJOY THE HOLIDAYS!
- Week of January 4th: Practices start back up for all age levels.
- January 9th - February 6th: Practices/Games for all age levels.
- February 14th: Make-Up date for all age levels.
- Pre-K: KAK Pre-K Basketball is listed as a separate program.
Practice Schedule for K-6:
- Kindergarten: Co-ed. During the season, practices will be held for 45 minutes on Tuesdays at Mildred L. Day School, 5:45-6:30PM. Practices will be on Tuesdays, 12/1/26, 12/8/26, 12/15/26 (No Basketball December 21-January 3), 1/5/27, 1/12/27, 1/19/27, 1/26/27, 2/2/27. Games will take place Saturday mornings at Mildred L. Day School from 12/5/26 through 2/6/2027.
- 1/2 Boys: During the season, practices will be held for 45 minutes on Wednesdays at Mildred L. Day School, 5:45-6:30PM. Practices will be on Wednesdays, 12/2/26, 12/9/26, 12/16/2026 (No Basketball December 21-January 3), 1/6/27, 1/13/27, 1/20/27, 1/27/27, 2/3/27. Games will take place Saturday mornings at Mildred L. Day School from 12/5/26 through 2/6/2027.
- 1/2 Girls: During the season, practices will be held for 45 minutes on Thursdays at Mildred L. Day School, 5:45-6:30PM. Practices will be on Thursdays, 12/3/26, 12/10/26, 12/17/26 (No Basketball December 21-January 3), 1/7/27, 1/14/27, 1/21/27, 1/28/27, 2/4/27. Games will take place Saturday mornings at Mildred L. Day School from 12/5/26 through 2/6/2027.
- 3/4 Boys & Girls: During the season, practices will be held at Kennebunk Elementary School (KES) for 60 minutes on a weekday late afternoon/evening. Practice times/day of the week will be determined by coaches. (No Basketball December 21-January 3) Games will be on Saturdays at Kennebunk Elementary School, this is an in-house league so no travel requirements.
- 5/6 Boys & Girls: During the season, practices will be held at Mildred L. Day School (MLD) for 60 minutes on a weekday late afternoon/evening. Practice times/day of the week will be determined by coaches. (No Basketball December 21-January 3) Home games for 5/6 Boys will be at Mildred L. Day School (MLD). Home games for 5/6 Girls will be at Kennebunk Elementary School (KES). Away games will be at other local recreation department gyms.
Volunteers Are NEEDED:
- Volunteers are needed to coach each team. The success of this program depends on parent help. Please consider coaching your child's team.
- If interested in coaching, during the registration process please provide your name, phone number, and email address.

Cancellations/Make-Up:
- If games are cancelled on a Saturday, the make-up date is Saturday, February 13th. There will be only one make-up date for the season. We will not be going past Saturday, February 14th.
- When school has a snow day or is closed for a holiday or other reasons, THERE IS NO BASKETBALL.
- If practice is cancelled during the week for grades 3-6, depending on the coach availability and gym time/space there may be a make-up practice. If practice is cancelled during the week for grades K-2, there will be no make-ups.
- Please keep an eye on your emails for possible cancellations of games. Tyler will make the final call no later than 7:00AM on Saturday morning.
Equipment:
- Clean, indoor basketball sneakers are recommended for all age levels. K-6.
- We ask that you not allow your children to run onto the court with wet shoes/boots that were worn outdoors. Please have them change into clean, dry basketball sneakers for practice and games when they arrive in the gym. Having a wet court is a safety concern and keeping the court clean also saves us a lot of cleaning as we have other teams coming in for games or practices.
- All basketballs, team shirts/jerseys, first aid kits, coaching packets, etc will be provided by Arundel & Kennebunkport Recreation.
